Moore Wins as Moore and Shealy Secure Senate Nominat

In a state Senate primary with single member districts, incumbent Thomas L. Moore and challenger Ryan C. Shealy won the Democratic and Republican nominations respectively. Christensen defeated Shealy in Aiken County, but edged out by Moore when Lexington votes were included, finalizing Moore with 4,549 votes in Edgefield and Aiken counties.

Deadline Nearing For Voter Registration

Deadline approaches for the November election registration. Voters can register at the Voter Registration Office in the County Council Building annex on Richland Avenue or at mobile sessions today at Aiken Technical College, Hahn Village Community Center, a Kwick Shop on SC 19 North, Schofield Parking Lot, and the Voter Registration Office on Richland Ave this Saturday.

Outstanding Du Pont Gets 7th DOE Contract

The DOE renews Du Pont's contract to operate the Savannah River Plant citing its outstanding operating record. The 1985 budget totals about 1.3 billion dollars for construction and operation at the plant. The facility manufactures plutonium and tritium for the U.S. nuclear weapons arsenal.
