Ancient portrait coins not as rare as you’d think
James Barry president of the S C Numismatic Association told Sunrise Rotary that coins are a hobby not an investment. He noted 400 000 coins exist making rare finds unlikely while citing a high value Athena coin at about 1 million. He discussed history from Greeks to Romans and praised 19th century Seated Liberty coinage and Roosevelt era sculpture. The meeting also honored students Crystal Edwards and Kayla Butler.
