The Forest ry Commission will receive more than 50 new fire-fighting vehicles over the next several months. The flatbed trucks are modified to haul specialized bulldozers and will replace older units. The highly mobile vehicles are capable of fighting fires in nearly any terrain, according to Cabe.
German auto parts supplier Pierburg GmbH plans a 100 million plant at Southchase Industrial Park in Greenville. The 17 acre site will include a 50,000 sq ft building and start with 40 workers in June, rising to about 200 later. Pierburg serves Mercedes-Benz and other European customers.
The state Supreme Court disbarred attorney Robert L. Berry Jr retroactively to June 27 after he admitted to having sex with a client, unlawfully purchasing and providing controlled substances, misusing trust funds, and borrowing from a client. The ruling notes his prior role as a municipal judge in Gaffney.
William Isaac Newsome 78 of Belvedere died Saturday at home after a brief illness. He was born in Belvedere and was a retired factory supervisor. Survived by his wife Mary. daughters Linda and Susan. son William Jr.. two sisters and four grandchildren. Services Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church. Burial in Riverside Cemetery. Donations to the Belvedere Animal Rescue.
Aiken City Council advanced a plan to build a shopping center on 11 acres at Wire Road and Rutland Drive anchored by a 29000 square foot Food Lion. Developers Warren Irvin and Company signed a lease with Food Lion for the center with construction possibly beginning February 1996. The project, valued at over 2 million, could take seven months, but two Rutland Drive parcels may be sold for quick service restaurants, adding traffic. no leases for those parcels exist yet.
In Washington President Clinton urged peace while NATO aims to deploy U.S. troops to Bosnia. Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole signaled cautious support, stressing he wants to back the president though many Republicans oppose the plan. Clinton warned that without U.S. forces the fighting could resume.

Qualifying families must present a social security card and a recent rent or mortgage bill along with other bills such as fuel and telephone. Volunteers coordinate food and holiday toy support funded by community generosity. Last year the fund spent over $31 000 to assist 305 families including 1 150 individuals.
South Carolina lawmakers pushed raising the learner’s permit age from 15 to 16 or 18 amid concerns about teen driver safety. Rep. Cotty and Sen. Thomas argued higher ages reduce accidents and insurance costs, while Rep. Cramer seeks mandatory driver education. Spartanburg students counter that later starts don’t guarantee more experience.
