Judge Overrules SC Phone Rate Hike by Southern Bell

Blessing of the Hounds Rescheduled for Tomorrow at Hitchcock Woods

Chitlin Strut Set to Boil Four Tons in Salley

The 15th annual Chitlin Strut begins tomorrow in Salley with McMillian in charge of boiling four tons of chitlins at his mother’s Bamberg farm. Atomic City on the Savannah River Plant plans announced

On November 28, 1950 the U S Atomic Energy Commission revealed a new production complex to be built by Du Pont in Aiken and Barnwell counties South Carolina named the Savannah River Plant The move required relocation of about 1500 households within 18 months affecting Ellenton and nearby towns The announcement followed briefings with community leaders and included assurances of cooperation from local officials and residents Several communities were erased or renamed including New Ellenton born from Ellenton and the reaction mixed among residents with protest signs visible in Ellenton
