South Carolina Public Service Commission officials told Rep elect C Marshall Cain inflation drives rate increases and adds to regulatory challenges. Commissioner Rudolph Mitchell said inflation is the greatest current evil and cited electricity costs and environmental rules as factors beyond PSC control. Ballentine noted a toll free complaint line 1 800 922 1531 and said all complaints are investigated.
In a stunning attack at City Hall, Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk were killed. Suspect Dan White, 32, surrendered after the shootings and faces investigation and psychiatric tests. A massive vigil drew tens of thousands as the city mourned.
The North Augusta City Council meets in a special session to consider the 1979 Consolidated Municipal Budget and an ordinance adopting the annual city property tax. A public hearing on the new budget is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall 400 Buena Vista Ave.
The Aiken County Board of Education holds a regular session at 8 PM in the Educational Center conference room. The agenda items include status reports policy changes on field trips jury duty and maternity leave. New business covers budget adjustments and a management study proposal. The center is at 843 Edgefield Ave and the meeting is open to the public.
The Aiken County Election Commission upheld Democrat Billie K. Trapp as District 5 winner over Republican L. Kline Paulk by five votes. Paulk has five days to appeal to the South Carolina Election Commission, with contested ballots and six uncounted in Precinct 10 cited.
Mrs. Irene K. Rudnick withdrew her protest over the House 85 race in Columbia after finding insufficient evidence for a hearing. Democrat Rudnick, defeated by C Marshall Cain, praised supporters while Cain said the delay ends and he can pursue his legislative agenda.
