Salley chitlin strut draws 25000 from across region
The Salley Chitlin Strut attracted about 25 000 visitors from Greenville Spartanburg Georgetown Central Oats Belton and other towns. Originator Glen Young recalled early fund raising on the city council and noted continued growth with attendees even from abroad while locals praised the event for community service and fun. The parade featured 70 units led by Ernestine Dekle amid five tons of chitlins and competitions including Hawg Calls and a strutting contest won by Junior Haney. Funds have financed a fire truck police car and garbage service.
