Weekend weather in the Aiken area predicts rising temperatures with a high in the upper 60s today and near 70 degrees tomorrow. Sunday looks partly cloudy and warm with near zero chance of rain as winds shift from southwest at 8 to 16 mph to under 8 mph tonight.
Frank Fontaine the Crazy Guggenheim from the Jackie Gleason show will attend a testimonial at Hynes Auditorium on December 8. He recently suffered a heart attack while performing on the Jerry Lewis Telethon for muscular dystrophy funds. Fontaine and his wife, parents of 11, reside in Winchester.
Washington sources say federal outlays may top the $225 billion Nixon cap by 10 billion in the year starting July 1. The 235 billion level would exceed this year's official estimate by about 30 billion, with some budget watchers in Congress predicting even higher totals next year.

In Manila the Pope Paul VI escaped a stabbing as a Bolivian painter in clerical garb lunged with a dagger hidden on a crucifix. The assailant, Benjamin Mendoza y Amor, was restrained and wounded. the Pope remained unharmed. Cardinal Stephen Kim reported blood on his cassock but was not cut.
Charles Lybrand confirms Edgefield County will cover indigent patients treated at University Hospital in Augusta. Agreement requires welfare certification. emergency cases allowed with 72 hour filing, and elective admissions need prior indigency certification for 30 days. Edgefield seeks similar deals with neighboring counties. Aiken County has not yet agreed.
