Thousands gathered for the sixth annual One Table community Thanksgiving dinner in downtown Aiken on a sunny Thursday. Volunteers in golden T shirts served water tea and desserts as crowds of up to 3000 filled The Alley and nearby streets before plans to relocate food to Newberry Street next year.
Peggy Sue Gibson recalls how a plan proposed by Rusty on the Internet turned into a community Thanksgiving. She feared taking food from the needy at first, but accepted the project as a chance to meet people and build connections, noting new friendships and a contact found.

The Aiken Hounds mark the 96th Blessing of the Hounds Opening Meet at Memorial Gate in Hitchcock Woods signaling the holiday season. Father Someeiaene officiates the Blaring APS Hat event as Linda Knox McLean notes favorable turnout and scenting varies with weather.
After a cautious year, retailers kept doors open on Thanksgiving Day drawing crowds including overseas visitors and workers. Sears Kmart Sports Authority Gap Old Navy and Banana Republic offered deep discounts while Brenda Tarver from Baltimore and Willy Gerelbest from Brooklyn shopped at stores like Old Navy and Kmart in Lutherville Maryland and Brooklyn New York.
David Friedman, president of marketing for Sears Holdings Corp, explains the 7 am to noon Thanksgiving opening was driven by strong Black Friday results and Kmart success. Workers receive holiday pay and still have time for a meal. The note references shop on page 16A.
