Clearwater Finishing blaze lights up night
A major fire at the Clearwater Finishing Plant lit the night sky Thursday with no injuries. Fire crews from multiple Aiken County units battled flames from 9:40 p.m. past midnight, stabilizing the blaze as a fundraising shopping center lot served as the staging ground. The facility, shuttered since the late 1980s and county property due to $366000 in overdue taxes, had seen a failed restart in the early 1990s. The EPA agreed to assist in March.
