Belvedere Clearwater Road to gain five lanes in upgrade plan

The Belvedere Clearwater Road widening project in North Augusta aims to convert 1.78 miles from Old Ludlow Lake Road to SR 1 into a five lane corridor with curb, sidewalks and a bike path. Officials say the plan would improve traffic flow and safety for transit riders and pedestrians. A public hearing is expected in December or January after environmental documents are approved. The project budget is about 5.7 million dollars with right of way work slated for 2016 and completion anticipated around late 2017 or early 2018.

Aiken approves extended hours for horse-drawn carriages

The Aiken City Council amended the city code to allow horse-drawn carriage rides for hire with extended hours from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. during Thanksgiving through New Year’s. year-round rides run 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. EDT with tours starting no later than 7:30 p.m. local. The Equine Commission approved the change. safety concerns were raised by residents. Mayor Osbon was sworn in, along with Diggs and Dewar, after unopposed elections.
