The Alley in downtown Aiken is largely finished with Phase One of a three phase streetscape project. The sewer line replacement, water main work, and overhead utility rerouting are complete. Phase Two runs Bee Lane and Phase Three from Bee Lane to Newberry Street. The One Table event Thursday marks further reopenings.
Government offices in Aiken and North Augusta will close Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving. Landfill and drop-off centers close Thursday. Aiken County schools close Wednesday through Friday. Aiken County garbage and recycling close Thursday with residential routes one day late. North Augusta garbage close Thursday and Friday with residential pickup day early.

Aiken shoppers can plan with Thanksgiving and Black Friday hours for Wal Mart Target Kmart GameStop Sam's Club PetSmart Lowe's The Home Depot Old Navy Dillard's and Belk. Stores vary from early morning opens to late night hours with many opening on Thanksgiving.
South Carolina drivers are urged to prepare for heavy traffic during the Thanksgiving period from Wednesday 6 p.m. to Sunday midnight. Officials warn congestion will rise as gas prices ease, stressing pre planning and patience for long trips. Judd Jones of the Highway Patrol stresses two peak travel days and cautions drivers to use GPS or maps for safer routing.
