Denton widow Jane Denton dies at 81 in Norfolk hospital
ELSEWHERE MOBILE, Ala. Jane Maury Denton wife of former Vietnam prisoner of war and ex-U.S. Sen. Jeremiah Denton Jr. has died at 81. She died Thursday at a Norfolk hospital from heart attack complications. She helped organize the National League of Families of American Prisoners Missing in Southeast Asia in the 1960s after her Navy pilot husband was shot down and captured in 1965. His eight years in a North Vietnamese prison spurred her advocacy credited with aiding humane treatment and the prisoners' eventual release.

Egret rescue from massive clam saves tiny life
Hilton Head Island residents Alberta and B J Sheroski freed a juvenile snowy egret trapped by a large clam in Mariner's Cove. They pulled the bird from the water, warmed and dried it, and kept it safe until it flew away back to the marsh, relieved and amazed by the outcome.
