SCE G and public officials say the Southeast is better prepared for winter but residential costs will rise 5 to 10 percent, commercial 11 percent, and industrial 13 percent due to well head price increases. Storage tanks are filled this year after last year’s severe cold.
The Associated Press reports a Pacific Northwest blizzard with heavy November snow spreading east toward the upper Mississippi Valley. Wyoming faces more snow after at least one fatality and many travelers stranded, while Portland, Oregon, buried under seven inches in 13 hours before melting in rain.
The Civil Aeronautics Board directed its staff to draft a final order banning pipe and cigar smoking on all U S commercial flights. The order could take effect in 30 or 60 days and would also apply when aircraft ventilation is nonfunctional. The extension to cigarettes faces public hearings before adoption.
