Cotton prices sink as acres stabilize in South Carolina
In South Carolina cotton growth has leveled after a boom, with prices sliding from about 1.00 to 0.65 per pound and production easing from 335000 acres two years ago to an expected 285000 this year. Growers flag weather, late spring freezes, and uneven rainfall as key factors, while Mississippi Delta gains offset regional declines. Will Hunter notes cotton value at 161 million, tobacco at 210 million. Tommy Coleman predicts stabilization near 300000 acres with experienced growers continuing to operate under challenging conditions.
