Trailways Bus Wreck Injures 12 in North Augusta Crash

A Trailways bus struck a tree and toppled a power pole on Georgia Street injuring 12 aboard. Eleven were taken to University Hospital Augusta. the driver remained critically injured and trapped for about 20 minutes. Power restored to most customers by noon.

FMC Corporation Starts Up Today

The 90th largest U.S. company begins operations at a new 2.5 million plant in Aiken Industrial Park near the airport. FMC will make Bolens outdoor power equipment including lawn mowers and garden tillers for national distribution. About 50 employees join in the startup ceremony with executives from MC Central of Port Washington attending. The plant, begun in March, was built by Suitt Construction Co. of Greenville and today’s opening was open to the press.
