Severe press problems caused late delivery of the Aiken Standard yesterday. The press has been repaired and the newspaper should be back on schedule today. The Aiken Standard regrets the inconvenience to its readers.
Former President Richard Nixon was expected to discharge from the hospital after 23 days of treatment for phlebitis and return to his San Clemente villa to await examination by doctors appointed by the Watergate cover-up trial judge. Hospital spokesman Norman Nager said discharge day was tomorrow.
U S District Judge John J. Sirica appointed three heart and circulatory specialists to determine if former President Richard Nixon is healthy enough to testify in the Watergate cover-up trial. Sirica said the doctors would choose the method for the independent medical inquiry and LaRue was set to resume detailing his role as an assistant to John N. Mitchell.
In Las Vegas President Ford told Americans he will urge sacrifice for the national good in the weeks ahead and predicted inflation will be cooled with an eventual upturn in economic patterns despite ongoing weakness and recession concerns.
Extremist protesters in Tokyo hurled fire bombs at the American and Soviet embassies during President Ford's visit and clashed with police. Minor damage reported and several police guards were injured as investigators tie the assault to ultra leftist student factions armed with pipes and gasoline bottles.
