Former SC lawmakers push flag removal over 1962 action

Former Gov John West leads a drive to urge the remaining 1962 all white General Assembly members to seek removal of the Confederate flag from the Statehouse. West says the flag was raised for a Civil War centennial and public opinion should be clarified. Joined by ex Gov Robert McNair and Rep George Campion Jr. the effort aims to end a long running legislative rift.

Women learn outdoor skills at Edgefield event

Forty two women from Georgia North Carolina and South Carolina gathered at the Wild Turkey Center in Edgefield for a day long Women in The Outdoors program. They rotated through handgun skeet archery and outdoor photography stations and completed a self defense class with a silent auction and merchandise raffle.

Chamber celebrates its move to new Aiken building

The Aiken Chamber of Commerce moved to Richland Avenue last year and, with a new building, gardens, and display areas, reports increased visitor traffic and a stronger town image. Director June Murff cites regional visitors from Camden, Lexington, Summerville and the old English district as evidence of the change.
