Gov James B Edwards announced a three day state investigation into all 18 Community Action Commissions. Aiken County CAC will be first examined by a 17 member team from the State Office of Economic Opportunity with one added investigator focusing on transportation.

L C Green, Aiken County Civil Defense Director, received the National Distinguished Service Citation from Defense officials for leading emergency operations after a B 52 crash near Montmorenci on September 3. He also earned a National Certificate of Commendation and an Air Force commendation. Green credited the people of Aiken County for the cooperation and quick rescue efforts.
The Senate approved a 30 day extension of oil price controls to avoid expiry this Saturday and sent the measure to the House by voice vote. It gives Congress until December 15 to finish work on a broader energy bill.
