In Altadena California a Sunday recovery found a car parked over a 100 foot cliff with two wheels over the edge. The driver James Loran 26 of Pasadena was booked for investigation of drunken driving after authorities said the gear shift was in neutral and the man slept peacefully inside the vehicle. A tow truck retrieved the car to safety.
Northwest Airlines announces tentative agreement with mechanics and other employees to avert a Sunday strike. Union officials will hold meetings to explain the contract before a rank and file vote. Details of the agreement are not disclosed and all flights will operate Sunday.

About 75 students gathered at Aiken High School on Saturday morning to clean litter around the school. Sponsored by the Beta Club and Student Council, the effort included sweeping the parking area, raking leaves, and burning weeds. The ladder truck from the Aiken Fire Department arrived to help paint the flag pole, and work continued till 2 30 p.m. The principal and teacher Mrs Manning Owen noted the ongoing litter issue despite these efforts.
