Discovery crew close to landing after spacewalk repair
Cape Canaveral reports Discovery nears landing as commander Pamela Melroy and spacewalker Scott Parazynski recount a perilous fix of a torn solar wing. Parazynski describes a risky, unprecedented repair using improvised braces and a hockey stick tool while a 90 foot robotic arm steadied the wing. The mission ends after 15 days in orbital construction, with technicians bringing back steel shavings and samples for the rotary joint.
