James E. George a structural steel worker from the Allegany Reservation won a two year term as national president of the Seneca Nation. He secured 603 votes on Tuesday defeating two opponents as William Senca moved to treasurer of the 4500 member nation.
An Asheville bank teller accepted a roll of bills from a man who could not produce ID. After briefly searching pockets, the man removed his upper denture plate, revealing his name and address engraved by a dentist, and the savings account was opened.
A tear gas grenade was hurled through a window at Patrolman Joseph Pace's Randolph residence. The device landed on the bed where his youngest child slept, starting a fire. Pace evacuated his wife and three other children, and no one was hurt.

Aiken Masonic Lodge 156 celebrates its 100th birthday tonight at the Shrine Club on Whiskey Road with a 7 15 dinner and guest dignitaries including Grand Master Herbert L Middleton and Grand Secretary H Dwight McAllister. The lodge has grown from 30 to over 600 members and will host ceremonies Saturday for the first Scottish Rite Lodge of Perfection in Aiken County with a class of 45 candidates.
Claudia Carmen Turner Miss South Carolina 1971 will serve as hostess at Lee's grand opening tomorrow November 6 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Melvin Turner of Spartanburg and a Dorman High School graduate who planned to transfer to the University of South Carolina to study elementary education after her reign.
