Sister Cynthia L. Mahoney of Aiken died November 1 2006 at her residence. A memorial service was held at Shellhouse Funeral Home in Aiken with Reverend Scott Nead and Reverend Melanie Barton officiating. Interment was private. She was born in Camden to Dallas J. Mahoney Jr and Elizabeth Jennings Mahoney. A former Chaplain in New York she served at Ground Zero on 9 11 and with the fatality team, later worked as an EMT and assisted the NYC Coroner's Office. She was a nun and member of St Augustine Episcopal Church. She is survived by a sister Gaye Elizabeth Peebles of ND, a brother Dallas J. Mahoney III of Camden, a nephew Richard Allen Peebles and a niece Elizabeth Anne McManus. Memorials may be directed to a charity of one's choice. The family will receive friends at Shellhouse Funeral Home.

Three bodies found in drainage pipe in South Carolina

Inmate Holds Worker Hostage At Ridgeland Prison
An inmate at Ridgeland Correctional Institution in Jasper County seized a prison employee around 12 15 pm on Friday. Negotiations are ongoing as staff confirm the rest of the facility remained secure and all counts were completed. The Corrections Department declined to release names of the inmate or hostage.

Pilot survives ultralight crash in Chester County field
In Rock Hill an ultralight plane crashed in a Chester County field at about 5 p.m. Thursday. The pilot, Stephen Crump of Rock Hill, called 911 and was taken to a hospital. Emergency officials said the crash occurred in Chester County and the pilot survived.
