Guard attack tied to two embassy bombing suspects
Two U S embassy bombing suspects Khalfan Khamis Mohamed and Mamdouh Mahmud Salim attacked a guard at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York, stabbing him in the eye and leaving him in critical condition. The guard underwent lengthy surgery and remained critical as officials linked the suspects to the 1998 Nairobi and Dar es Salaam embassy bombings. Salim, said to be Osama bin Laden's finance chief, and Mohamed faced U S charges and extraditions in Germany and South Africa respectively.
