Fun shines at fair at Jackson Middle School

Weather stayed mostly dry as crowds visited the Southeastern Hobby Fair at Jackson Middle School. Gospel groups performed including Flo Carter and her band, with Groovy Granny on stage. Activities included cakewalks and a raffle for the Jackson Volunteer Fire Department. Visitors came from Texas New Jersey and New York, with peak hours 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Vendors offered lemonade funnel cakes snow cones and crafts amid cloudy skies.

Aiken County voters face light turnout in Tuesday elections

Election official Denton Johnson predicts low turnout for the special House elections in Aiken County with few contests outside Districts 81 84 and 86. Polls open 7 am to 7 pm across 63 precincts with results to be posted at the County Council building. The broader federal ruling on reapportionment frames this vote as among 22 House and eight Senate districts reconsidered. Incumbent Rudy Mason faces Brian Lisk and Sarah Flemming in District 81. Mason seeks a third term while Lisk is a student and Flemming runs a computer consulting service.
