Twenty two defendants from North Augusta and Augusta charged in a 45 count RICO fraud scheme tied to the Murphy Village Irish Traveler community are slated for pre trial conference November 30 at the U S District Courthouse in Columbia. Plea option available. jury selection set for December 8. The indictment spans charges including racketeering conspiracy mail and wire fraud and interstate transportation of stolen items with heavy penalties.
Edgefield held a free Trunk or Treat event at Courthouse Square with the Town, Edgefield Community Development Association, and Antioch Baptist Church. Mayor Ken Durham gave out candy as participants in costumes enjoyed food, a photo booth, and community fellowship from about 20 local groups.
Midland Valley Community Church hosts a trunk or treat with 4000 plus attendees past eight years. Volunteers from Mission Field area provided 102 candy trunks 2300 hot dogs five bushels peanuts and thousands of candy pieces. Church leaders say the event shows love of Jesus and a safe community space with free admission.
