Grand Jurors urge bonding for county magistrates in Aiken

County Red Cross Chapter Reorganized in Aiken County

The Savannah River flood prompted a reorganization of the Aiken County Red Cross. Charles W. Carr chairs a revived chapter with G. H. Ballentine as chairman and other officers named. A flood relief drive is planned. about $100 was raised at a Friday meeting, and a $1 annual membership is expected. The national body allows 60 cents of each membership to fund local flood relief.

Calhoun Announces Candidacy for Secretary of State

Harry D. Calhoun of Denmark last week announced his candidacy for secretary of state in the Democratic primary next summer. A former president of the South Carolina Bankers association and ex commander of the South Carolina Sons of Confederate Veterans, he has led bank and civic efforts including Liberty loan drives and Red Cross work. He is a state agent for Conservative Life Insurance and has long been active in Democratic campaigns.

Graniteville Man John Satcher Buried in Local Rites

The Graniteville community bid farewell to John Ira Satcher, longtime resident and salesman, at a Friday funeral from St James Lutheran Church. Rev E W Leslie and Rev A TeBow officiated, with burial at Graniteville Cemetery under Masonic and Woodmen honors. Survived by second wife Miss Nan Powell, daughters Christine and Helen, sister Mrs James Simmons, and a long list of colleagues. He worked at Graniteville Manufacturing in Warrenville after a career in sales and served his church in multiple offices.
