Honor student barred from graduation over knife found in car
Estero High School senior Lindsay Brown, an National Merit Scholar, was barred from the graduation ceremony after a kitchen knife with a 1/2 inch serrated blade was found in her car. A federal judge declined to intervene two hours before the ceremony, ordering that she wait for her diploma by mail. Brown says she slipped the knife while moving and had no intent to harm. She faces a weapon on campus charge, but will complete final exams and may receive tuition help from the university if her scholarship is affected.
