Owens-Corning Fiberglas Corp will temporarily reduce its Aiken facility workforce by 190 employees effective June 10. Plant manager Robert Hrubala cited inventory demand alignment as the reason, with the plant employing about 1,200 now and a completion goal for capital improvements in October.
Millions of customers in South Carolina will receive distinct AT&T bills for leased telephones and business equipment starting in June. The change follows the January 1984 Bell System restructuring, transferring ownership of equipment to AT&T Information Systems, while Southern Bell still bills for local and long distance services. A bill insert will explain the new format with the first AT&T bill.

The Beech Island estate of James Brown, seized for taxes, sold at public auction for 9500 to Georgia attorney Albert H. Dallas. The 39.98 acre property includes a 3500 square foot house, pool, bath house, and outbuildings, with 120 day redemption rights for Brown or lienholders.
In Columbia the Senate reversed an earlier decision and approved a 21 percent raise for all 16 solicitors to align salaries with family court judges, lifting annual pay by 11,546 to 65,641. The move came during debate on a 2.8 billion state appropriations bill as lawmakers sought to finish the week’s budget work.
