Compromise eyed over SRP restart endangering state

South Carolina weighs a federal compromise to reactivate the Savannah River Plant reactor with risks to the state. Wagener Woman Builds New Home After Tragic Fire

Kath erin Maple, widow of a Wagener family killed in a 1982 blaze that took six relatives, receives a new house donated through insurance and gifts. James O Brown of A L Corbett Middle School introduced the home on Saturday. Donations to support Mrs. Maple may be sent to Bankers Trust in Wagener.

Gunplay Leads To County Man's Death

Aiken County man Thomas W. Esborn died Friday night from a single .22 bullet fired during a backyard shootout with friend Robert Peacock. Peacock, charged with murder, said he believed his pistol was empty. The two men and a third person had been bar hopping before the shooting at Peacock's home. Esborn was a paramedic and his body was sent for autopsy.
