Large SC brush fire near Rebel Road contained by nightfall
The nearly 100 degree blaze forced evacuations within a one mile radius of Rebel Road as engines bulldozed sand blocks. No injuries or structures burned. Red Cross sheltered evacuees at Aiken Baptist Church. residents allowed to return by 8:30 p.m. Graniteville Fire Department led response with aid from multiple agencies including Aiken Public Safety and US Forest Service. Traffic restrictions persisted near Edgefield Highway Rutland Delve.
