Spoleto opens in Charleston with acrobats and city memory
The Spoleto Festival U.S.A. began in Charleston with Chinese acrobats and a brass fanfare as Mayor Riley urged a pursuit of beauty and truth. Artist Jonathan Green recalled Hugo’s 1989 impact on Charleston while poster artwork by Green honors the city. The event runs 17 days with 130 performances plus Piccolo Spoleto’s 700 events.
