TEL AVIV AP Israeli troops killed ten Syrian guerrillas early today after they crossed from Jordan into Israeli territory near the Maoz Haim settlement twelve miles south of the Sea of Galilee. No Israeli casualties were reported in a 30 minute clash that followed.
James W. Duckett, 58, longtime Citadel staff member and 1932 honor graduate, was elected president by the Board of Visitors and will assume duties September 1 succeeding Hugh Harris. Duckett has served in multiple roles at The Citadel since 1934 including chemistry professor, registrar, dean of admissions, administrative dean, and vice president. Harris, 61, departs after five years as part of a line of retired Army generals in the post.
The Aiken Republican headquarters will open at 7 30 p m today in the former Chamber of Commerce building at 236 Richland Ave. Candidates will be on hand with no formal ceremonies planned. The site will operate 9 a m to 9 p m starting next week.
New York reports two straight gains with heavy volume, the Dow Jones industrial average rising 20.95 to 684.15, marking a 3.15 percent advance. Analysts note record turnover on the NYSE and AMEX as optimism grows that a 17 month decline may be ending.
