Lawmakers name Pleicones top judge
South Carolina lawmakers elected Costa Pleicones as the new chief justice of the state Supreme Court to succeed Jean Toal who must retire at year end. Pleicones, who turns 72 next year, will serve about one year. He ran unopposed after a failed bid in 2014 and plans minor changes such as shortening the bar exam and expanding electronic filing. The retirements create two open seats on the five member court, as lobbying begins.
