Senate panel weighs cheaper MOX alternative and facility reuse
The Senate Armed Services Committee seeks an independent cost study of the cheapest MOX alternative for plutonium disposition and asks DOE to analyze how the Mixed Oxide Fuel Fabrication Facility could be repurposed if an alternative method is chosen. The defense bill keeps MOX funding at 345 million, with 5 million more for further analysis of down blending, due by Oct 31.

Portnoy, Hofstetter and the Aiken Symphony Guild bring a new orchestra to town after impressed audiences inspired the project. Three concerts are announced with Paremski in Sept at USC Aiken Etherredge Center, Beijing Guitar Duo in Nov, and Gluzman in Feb at First Baptist Church. Warm weather persists in Aiken through week
Meteorologist Hunter Coleman of the National Weather Service Columbia office says Aiken will see highs in the mid-80s and lows in the mid-60s today through Thursday with warmer conditions Friday and Saturday in the upper-80s. A chance of thunderstorms remains, though weekend rain chances drop.
