South Carolina men charged in dragstrip deaths
Two South Carolina men face charges after a drag racing crash near Marietta, killing two passengers. Scott M. Alexander of Easley is charged with contest of speed and two counts of vehicular homicide, Neil D. Emery of Beaufort with contest of speed failure to stop and render aid and DUI. The crash on Interstate North Parkway at 2 a.m. Saturday involved a 1998 Chevrolet Camaro and a 1995 Camaro Z 28. One passenger, Charles E. den Joe Wallace IV, 24, of Easley, died at the scene. Katherine Brogan, 20, of Branchburg, N J, survived.

Seven bikers among 12 killed over holiday weekend
The South Carolina Public Safety Department reports seven of 12 weekend fatalities were motorcyclists. Twenty three bikers have died on state roads this month, with most deaths in Horry County during the Atlantic Beach Bikefest. Other fatalities include Annie Martin in York County and Devrion Walls in York, both in separate crashes, plus several nonmotorcycle deaths across Spartanburg, Lugoff, Kershaw, and Greenville counties.
