Camp Long marks 70 years in South Carolina history
Camp W W Long 4 H resident camp near Aiken marks its 70th anniversary this summer. Built as a WPA project, the 379.38 acre site features a horse barn, riding ring, conference building, guest houses and cabins. Orientation begins Monday with 300 first week campers and more than 100 staying two weeks. Clemson University’s Youth Learning Institute coordinator notes camp’s appeal and its long legacy for former campers turned staff.

Phone outage hits 2300 Bellsouth customers in Aiken County
A backhoe cut a buried communications cable along highway 902 near Wagener, disrupting telephone service for about 2,300 Bellsouth customers in Aiken County. The outage began shortly after 1 pm and was restored by about 5 pm with no reported critical services affected. Pat Patton of Bellsouth called for a review of the incident.
