Clemson's Kyle Stanley opens NCAA championship play as an individual after决定 turning pro next month. Stanley, this year's Ben Hogan Award winner, begins his bid without the Clemson lineup supporting him.
SAHS senior guard Jimmy Ellis signed a letter of intent to play for North Greenville University after earning Region 5-AAA Player of the Year honors following a 16 ppg season with 83 three-pointers. Ellis, who carried a 3.75 GPA, chose North Greenville over Francis Marion and Furman and expects to contribute as a guard off the bench for coach Chad Lister.
Pacer head coach Vince Alexander announced Oklahoma transfer Kyle Cannon will join USC Aiken. Cannon, 6 8 forward guard with 16 7 points 7 5 rebounds per game at San Jacinto Junior College, joins a program that has recent NCAA appearances and Peach Belt title hopes.
USC Aiken's Travis Howard was named to the 2009 Rawlings ABCA NCAA Division I All-America first team as a designated hitter. He joins Daktronics first team All-America honors, giving the Pacers two organizations recognizing him in consecutive years. Howard posted 103 RBIs tying a Peach Belt Conference record and totaled 19 homers 16 doubles 3 triples with a .694 slugging percentage.
Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins advance to the Stanley Cup finals by defeating the Carolina Hurricanes 4 1 in Raleigh to complete a sweep in the Eastern Conference finals. Max Talbot, Ruslan Fedotenko, Bill Guerin, and Craig Adams score. Fleury stops 30 shots. Crosby adds two assists to extend his streak.
