Voters reject school bond in Aiken County referendum

In Aiken County voters rejected the 236 million school bond by more than two to one. Final tally showed 5 722 votes for the referendum and 13 642 against it. The plan would have funded nine schools and a tax increase affecting seniors in Cedar Creek precinct.

Cooling tower demolition under way at Savannah River Site

The 450 foot tall K-Reactor cooling tower at Savannah River Site was imploded as part of the Foot print Reduction Initiative funded by ARRA. Managed by American Demolition and Nuclear Decommissioning Inc. with Controlled Demolition Inc. handling explosives placement, the project cost about 3.98 million dollars and created millions of pounds of rubble.
