Clint Walker star of Cheyenne was hospitalized in Bishop California after doctors sewed up a heart wound from a ski pole puncture suffered during a Mammoth Mountain fall. He was 43 and accompanied by his daughter Valerie Demirdjian 19.
The Nixon administration secures a 224 to 131 House approval to merge the Peace Corps VISTA and other volunteer agencies into a new Action Corps. Money guarantees and administrative changes accompany the plan as Congress retains oversight.

An arson investigation into last month's Colonial Supper Club fire in Aiken County remains unfinished.
