SC retirees leader questions Bank of New York settlement
Wayne Bell of the State Retirees Association Friday called South Carolina’s settlement with Bank of New York Mellon a bad deal for retirees though it may be the best possible outcome given the wealth management firm. The treasurer’s office sued in 2011 claiming $200 million was lost in retirees’ funds through faulty investments. The AP obtained settlement terms: BNY Mellon to place $25 million in SC accounts, $20 million to the relief pension fund, and to link any 10-year contract to fee discounts.
