Iraq said its jet fighters and warships attacked a convoy of ships near Khor Moussa in the northeastern Persian Gulf destroying six naval vessels. The claim followed by hours a U N Security Council emergency meeting on halting ship attacks in the gulf amid the Iran Iraq war.

Hit-and-run kills cyclist near Aiken on S C 19
A professional bicyclist, newly moved to the area, was killed in a hit-and-run on S C 19 about four miles south of Aiken at 6 a m. The coroner said the victim’s identity is withheld until next of kin is notified and police seek a vehicle with round headlights and right-front damage. An autopsy will be performed in Newberry with evidence sent to Columbia.
