Weather forecast calls for fair warm conditions. Tonight a low mid 60s with 10 percent chance of rain and light variable winds. Friday mostly sunny and hot with a high near 90. Weekend outlook partly cloudy and warm with upper 80s highs and 60s lows.

A human skeleton was found yesterday near Langley by Donnie Earl Musselwhite and two others on Piney Heights Road beside the old Langley Cemetery. The incident prompted a sheriff’s probe as a nearby grave appeared vandalized and a bone bucket was located eight feet away.
Peach growers in the area look for a good season with thinning in orchards to size up fruit. Hail earlier damaged some trees though and predicts 20 percent fewer peaches than last year, the lowest since 1975, while fruit size should be larger and picking may begin in June. South Carolina continues to outproduce Georgia in peaches with a multi year lead, according to a May first survey.

Aiken Community Hospital hosted a first ever wedding in its third floor solarium after Mrs. Edwards could not leave the hospital. Donis Aletha Edwards planned the ceremony for Saturday with groom Jeffery Miram Dukes and hospital staff provided cake and decorations.
Ralph C. Haywood replaces Eugene England as chairman of the Aiken County Election Commission. England served 10 years and will continue as a member while Haywood assumes spokesman duties. Three March appointments added Haywood, Floria Harris, and Mary I Baker. others remain on the five member panel.
