Uranium option could save billions in disposal costs
A report by Oak Ridge's Nuclear Materials Disposition Office shows 200 metric tons of excess uranium could be disposed as fuel or buried as waste. Blending down to reactor grade fuel might yield a net gain of 300 to 800 million dollars, while waste disposal could cost about 8.4 billion. Government decision expected this fall.
