AP reports enemy frogmen blew a hole in the hull of the 7 643 ton Jefferson City Victory docked at Da Nang. The damage extent was not disclosed and no crew details are provided.
Vatican police stopped 57 year old Giovanni Tolla at Arch of the Bells and alleged he claimed to be an envoy of the Holy Ghost seeking to see Pope Paul VI. Italian police questioned him and released him after the inquiry.
Gallup Poll results from Princeton show Nixon leading both McGovern and Humphrey. McGovern runs slightly ahead of Humphrey as the Democratic challenger, but the President still holds a wide, though reduced, advantage over both rivals.
Thousands of Lithuanian youths chanting for freedom rioted against Soviet police and soldiers in Kaunas after a funeral for a young Roman Catholic who burned himself to death for political reasons. Several hundred youths were arrested and at least one police officer died from injuries sustained in the street fighting.
Antiwar protesters gathered at the Pentagon in Washington but did not close the facility or achieve their plan to block the Defense Department headquarters.

American military sources say about 400 North Vietnamese troops were killed by a large air and naval bombardment north of Hue. They reported destruction of about a score of enemy tanks as waves of U.S. fighter bombers struck into North Vietnam near the Hanoi Haiphong complex and other targets.
A nationwide AP test shows five digit zip codes do not guarantee quicker first class or airmail delivery. They noted stronger activity in the left foot with normal reflexes when the sole is stimulated and urged cautious optimism about recovery.
The South Carolina Pollution Control Authority raised water quality standards for 273 streams statewide and reclassified three in Aiken County and the Savannah River from Class C to Class B. In Aiken County streams including Horse Creek and Wilkerson Creek were moved to B, aiming to protect domestic water supply after treatment, fish propagation, and industrial uses.
Rodney Toole, 41, was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the Valentine's Day death of his wife. Aiken County judge Julius B. Ness sentenced him to three years in prison after a three hour jury deliberation.
Aiken Countians paid eight thousand four hundred seventy dollars in fines during the three week May term of General Sessions Criminal Court ending Friday. Court records show the majority of fines were for drunken driving and driving under suspension.
