Aiken Run Club Stars at State Senior Sports Classic
Aiken Run ning Club members combined to win seven events at the State Senior Sports Classic in Florence. Ann Carter won four titles in the women's 60-64 events including the 100, 200, 400, and high jump, and Dean Godwin captured three in the men's 165-69 division across 800, 1500 and 5000 meters. Carter and Godwin also placed second in multiple events and both qualified to represent the state at the 2003 National Senior Olympics in Hampton Roads, Virginia.

Bodies found in tent after Charlotte races
Police investigate deaths of two men found in a Lowe's Motor Speedway tent. Todd S. Loftis, 37, and Joseph D. Rumfelt, 24, were identified. A small charcoal grill was used to heat the tent. The men had camped near the Winston all star race as NASCAR events continued toward Coca Cola 600.
