Aiken plans a 24 hour medical care facility to cut ER trips and streamline costs. Councilwoman Lessie Price, co chair of the health care committee, discussed the idea at a Thursday Strategic Plan Steering Committee meeting with about 45 attendees and city leaders.
Ground breaking announced for a 140000 square foot training facility at the Savannah River Site in H Area about to be built by Westinghouse Savannah River Co. The facility aims to end offsite leases and could save about 1 million dollars a year.
The state Senate debated a car sales tax hike to fund education as part of a 2.7 billion budget. The proposal would raise taxes on purchases up to 16 thousand dollars, with 45 million anticipated for education and teacher salaries and 49 million in rural road funds. Opponents argued the plan and distribution formula favored urban areas, while rural counties pressed for better road funding and state help.
