Pickens County Council restricts county equipment to scraping existing dirt driveways only. Earlier stance allowed paving with county equipment if landowners prepaid for materials. the county supervisor had supported that view.
Bath Fire Department will cover Langley for ten days while Langley firefighters dispute use of a tanker with the water and sewer commission. The Langley force, led by dismissed Chief Roy Smith, walked off last week over tanker use to clear a backed sewer line. Center, Graniteville and other area departments met to authorize the temporary coverage.

Special state survey teams will conduct roadside breathalyzer sampling in the Aiken area this Friday May 23. Local officers assist as drivers are stopped at random and asked to take the test. Scott McPherson led the Aiken ASAP and urged public cooperation for the phase. James A. Neal said the data will help implement provisional licenses for first offense DUI offenders and support ongoing evaluation.
