The South Aiken High School Spring Band Festival takes place Monday at 7 30 p m at the Etherredge Center USC Aiken featuring bands from Aiken Middle Kennedy Middle and South Aiken High. Admission is 5 for adults and 3 for students.

Trenton Chapter DAR reconvenes Monday at 3 p.m. at Ola Hitt’s home 121 Chesterfield St. in Aiken for its annual chapter ten, snacks welcomed, guest speaker Will Cole on Women in World War II. Langley Pond project group premiered Visions of Langley Pond at Aiken Technical College with demand already high. Organizers Lynn Kirkland Stephen Stine and others discussed tourism, economic development, and outreach including copies available for 10 dollars by calling listed numbers. Rep Roland Smith also attended along with Mary Ann Mellor and others from the region.
The Aiken Standard advertising staff earned several awards at the S C Press Association Palmetto Ad Conference in Columbia. Janet Fanning and Julie Lott won third in single ad for Hootie s Hunting and Fishing. Diane Sturkie won third for a grand opening Aiken Ace Hardware ad. Debra Green and Mrs Sturkie also won third in automotive ads for Riley Vernon Chevrolet. DiAnn Bell Paula Cadden and Debbie Hough won first in classified pages for the 1995 Holiday Shopping Guide.
Four Cannon 35mm cameras donated by the Aiken Junior Women's Club and the Cumbee Center to Assist Abused Persons to ACSO will help deputies document abuse incidents. Kay Mixon of CAAP says photos provide crucial evidence, noting bruises fade but photos remain.
