Pope John Paul II birthday cake tale stalls in Vatican
Vatican says no special birthday events occurred for John Paul IIs 66th birthday despite a giant two tier cake sent by a Venetian pastry maker. The pope conducted his regular noon blessing in St Peters Square and did not reference his birthday in the day’s events. Meanwhile in Chicago a man with a rifle held his 6 year old son hostage with no demands, negotiators say the situation remains at a standstill as police set up a command post and barricade the street.
