GNP Sears 3.7 Percent Growth In First Quarter

The Commerce Department reports gross national product grew at an annual rate of 3.7 percent in Q1, the strongest since 1985, with inflation at 2.5 percent. The gain followed a 0.7 percent October-December rate, aided by a trade deficit swing and expected 1986 growth around 4 percent.

The EPA acknowledged air radiation in the United States may have been three times higher than initially reported after the Chernobyl accident.
